Each seat pack comes with a generous allowance of DNS lookups and registered addresses. Normal office use stays far below it, and going over means a conversation about the right package, never an automatic charge. This policy is part of the ZDNS Terms of Service and the Partner Agreement.

The Small Office plan counts as 10 seats: 50,000 lookups a day and 1 registered address. Allowances add up: 50 seats get 250,000 lookups a day and 2 registered addresses, and a partner with 200 committed seats gets 1,000,000 a day and up to 8 addresses. A typical office computer makes a few hundred to a few thousand lookups a day, so most customers use a small fraction of this.
What is not fair use
- Sending lookups from networks, sites or people that are not covered by your seats, or sharing one account between separate businesses.
- Running ZDNS as an open resolver that anyone on the internet can use.
- Reselling or passing on the service without a Partner Agreement.
- Bulk or automated lookups that are not normal business use, such as scanning, crawling or load testing.
- Probing, attacking or testing ZDNS systems without written permission.
If use goes over
- We check usage monthly. Lookup counts can be pushed up by faulty devices or by traffic forged to look like yours, so we look into the cause before acting.
- If use is above the allowance for a whole month, or a burst limit is exceeded repeatedly, we email you with what we saw and help find the cause.
- If the higher use is genuine, we agree the right number of seats with you, from the next billing month. Nothing is charged without your agreement.
- If use stays well above the allowance and is not resolved within 30 days, or if use is not fair use as listed above, we may slow lookups above the limit or suspend the account under the Terms of Service or the Partner Agreement.
